THE POSITION

Under supervision from the President or other area administrator, this position manages and directs activities and staff who provide student academic support services (SASS). Develops, implements, and evaluates a programme of academic services and support to assist students in becoming independent learners. Coordinates SASS activities, most often provided in dedicated study centers and learning labs, with other study centers disciplines/service areas to provide synchronized and quality services to students.

As the Director of the HGBSE Study Center, you will lead a strong team of six administrative staff, as well as interns, and responsible for the overall management of the study center, liaison with instructors, and administration of many different types of student programming including instructor-led, direct enrolment, international programmes and summer programmes for both certificate, undergraduate and graduate students.

You will manage institutional partnerships with colleges and universities, and assist in the development of programmes and coordinate closely with all partner institutions to complete required documents. Also serving as Director of Strategic Academic Development, you work with partner institutions, administrators and faculty to develop innovative and cutting-edge programming for students at HGBSE.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and directs all activities for the programmes and staff providing SASS;
  • Selects, supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff who provide SASS;
  • Supervises and leads assigned full-time and part-time staff at multiple sites for the HGBSE Study Centers, Learning Labs and Computer Lab; schedules work hours for staff to maximize delivery of services to students;
  • Recommends goals and objectives for SASS, assists in the implementation of policies and procedures;
  • Works in collaboration with faculty and other administrators to meet students’ tutorial needs;
  • Coordinates SASS activities with the Programme Coordinators and other disciplines and service areas;
  • Manages daily SASS activities at all sites to ensure effective and efficient operations;
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for academic support programs;
  • Assists faculty in developing intervention strategies for the retention of under-prepared, at-risk, and online students;
  • Maintains currency of knowledge of legal requirements and regulations as they pertain to basic skills and student equity;
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and accreditation requirements;
  • Reads, interprets, and applies relevant and related laws, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to instructional support programs and services;
  • Complies with categorical regulations as they apply to budgetary restrictions and programme requirements and provide supporting documentation as required for district and state auditing purposes; Ensures compliance with federal and state laws and regulations and accreditation requirements
  • Assesses, monitors and evaluates the needs of the students who use SASS; develops initiatives to meet students’ needs in view of best practices and input from in-house experts;
  • Participates in budget preparation and administration; reviews and approves expenditures.
  • Assists the school in identifying funding opportunities and other resources to help meet the needs of diverse students;
  • Provides highly complex staff assistance to the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs divisions; serves as an administrative resource for other disciplines and service areas as requested;
  • Develops, analyzes, and assesses Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and Service Area Outcomes (SAOs) to ensure the measurement and improvement of programme effectiveness (Programme Planning and Assessment), and implements program modifications as necessary;
  • Works closely with directors and coordinators to create a service calendar for the implementation of SASS programs and activities, such as workshops;
  • Collaborates with the Early Alert team to ensure students are progressing towards educational goal completion;
  • Coordinates regular meetings of scchool personnel to review and assess service delivery models, curricula, and progress towards equity and diversity goals;
  • Collaborates with academic and counseling staff to identify gaps in services and develop appropriate strategies to address these gaps;
  • Ensures the development, implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and improvement of a data tracking system to collect and analyze student success indicators;
  • Develops promotional and information materials, including website content, as a resource for students and the community to gather information on Huritt Business School programmes and services;
  • Attends committee meetings as assigned;
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of HGBSE students.
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices associated with higher education curricula, college level course scheduling and instruction, child development center, child care services and preschool operations, student learning, and student success.
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal and state laws, regulatory provisions, policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to interpret certification changes.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of management.
  • Ability to employ positive personnel management, supervision, and evaluation.
  • Ability to effectively lead teams with a collaborative style in a collegial and participatory governance environment. Ability to network with local and international agencies.
  • Knowledge of accreditation procedures, practices, and standards.
  • Knowledge of the development, implementation, and assessment of student learning outcomes.

  • Knowledge of computer software applications for reporting.

  • Knowledge of event planning, workshop organization, and meeting facilitation practices;
  • Ability to employ correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary;
  • Knowledge of outreach and recruitment techniques;
  • Knowledge of record-keeping techniques;
  • Ability to use appropriate public speaking techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, or other master’s degree with emphasis in adult learning theory;
  • Experience in a learning lab, learning resource center, or tutorial services center within the last five years;
  • Experience supervising and training tutors or educational aides;
  • Expertise or coursework in developmental education or a related area.
